Quote about Goals, New Year coming and all that!

The reason that ‘a good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving’ is simply that to focus on the destination is to focus on an illusion. There is no destination, only a journey, and to become fixated on a point in the future which never arrives is to miss the journey itself.

From  http://changeyourlife.net/living-without-goals/

The article lays out what is wrong with goals and then gives some great ideas for a better way to live.  I think I will be re-reading this one a few times.  Very thought provoking!

Best wishes

  1. Hmmm...I will need to go over and read the whole article. As a Christian, we are to run the race set before us and our goal is to "glorify God and enjoy him forever". Because he has done the work required for us to attain this great goal, we do not have to work to gain salvation, however, being saved we do have to seek to live a Godly life according to his Work and this in itself requires discipline and often goal setting. Just thinking aloud.

    1. I agree with you on that Ruby. We do need to always be working towards being better for His Glory. I do think though that this author also makes a good point about appreciating the journey. After all if we are so focused on achieving some goal of some attainment in the future we may be missing the pleasures of life now. You know, the whole stop to smell the roses, appreciate your children while they are young thing.

      Just my thoughts,
      Jen
